Physical Unclonable Function (PUF)

Secure Keys Rooted in ReRAM Physics

Background: Attacks on electronic devices and systems—IoT, computers, medical devices, and infrastructure—continue to rise. To ensure trusted communications and control, devices increasingly depend on cryptographic keys.

CrossBar’s ReRAM provides a robust PUF implementation for deriving device-unique keys within integrated CMOS processes. Unlike SRAM-based PUFs, ReRAM PUF technology offers strong key randomness and stability with low error rates and long sensing times, while avoiding environmental susceptibility inherent to other memory-based PUFs.

Benefits: high entropy, low bit error rate, resistance to invasive attacks, no RF interference concerns, and compatibility with advanced nodes (< 28nm) where embedded flash is impractical.
